Hardware and software requirements
The main criteria for choosing a server machine: the number of users connected to the system and the size of the database.
01Server
Server programs
| Users | Memory | Processor | Disk |
|---|---|---|---|
| 100 | 4 GB | Intel Core i3 | up to 100 GB |
| 200 | 8 GB | Intel Core i5 | 200 GB, a fast disk is preferable |
| 500 | 16 GB | Intel Core i7, Intel Xeon | RAID 10, 500 GB |
| 700 | 24 GB | Intel Xeon (2 processors) | RAID 10, 1 TB |
| over 700 | 32 GB | Intel Xeon (4 processors) | RAID 10, 1 TB, SSD preferably |
A 64-bit Windows Server 2008 or newer is recommended for the server machine. The server can also be installed on another edition of Windows, provided the database can be installed.

| Operating system | Windows 7 | Windows 10 and newer |
| Additional software | Microsoft Office 2003 SP3 and newer | Microsoft Office 2003 SP3 and newer |
03Database
Choosing a DBMS
- MySQL is a free edition with practically no limits; the demo version comes with it.
- Microsoft SQL Server Express is free but limited to a 10 GB database and 1.5 GB of memory.
- Microsoft SQL Server has no limit on the size of the database.
- Oracle is difficult to maintain and expensive, and needs a specialist.
- Put the operating system and the database files on different physical disks; 2–10 GB are needed at first.
- Set up automatic backups (for example, daily at night) and keep the copies in several places.
